Getting started in real estate is challenging and Columbus REALTORS® know it’s always easier when fellow REALTOR® professionals work together to further the success of others. The Columbus REALTORS® Scholarship Committee is proud to support Columbus REALTORS® President Andy Mills and his vision of ‘coming together’, by working diligently to select award recipients who will thrive as REALTORS® and succeed as leaders in our ever-changing industry.
Current scholarship opportunities are available for those dedicated to entering our profession through pre-licensing coursework, college/university students seeking degrees in real estate related programs; and current REALTORS® wishing to continue their education through broker licensing coursework.
As the “drop-out” rate for new REALTORS® is so high (nearly 70 percent) within the first three years, the committee is very selective during the review and interview process. In addition to an application, each candidate must submit a personal essay, a two-year business plan and letters of professional recommendation. To further this commitment, current scholarship awards are not based on financial need, rather awards are based on factors that set successful REALTOR® leaders apart, including personality, drive, empathy and vision.
Since 2011 (the year the group began tracking awardees), 69 percent of the 123 recipients have maintained active membership in Columbus REALTORS®; of those active members, a majority have served or are currently serving on a committee, in local area realty association leadership, or have received a Columbus REALTORS® sales award. These results indicate money well spent. The most important goal of the committee is to work together to further the success of Columbus REALTORS® and its members.
Funding for scholarship awards is provided by the Columbus REALTORS® Foundation, Columbus REALTORS® Young Professionals Network (YPN), Women’s Council of REALTORS®—Columbus Chapter, John G. & Linda Hondros of Hondros College, Independent Broker’s Association, the endowed Salts Memorial Scholarship, and Keller Williams Greater Columbus Cares (Nate Katz memorial). We thank these organizations for their generosity and investment in the future of the central Ohio real estate world!
Lastly, I would like to thank the members of the committee who spend countless hours reviewing and interviewing awardees each year. Comprised of former awardees, new and seasoned members, brokers and salespersons from brokerages both large and small, those who donate to the program can rest assured each award decision is carefully considered.
