As an Association, we have been fortunate to have leaders who encourage member growth and involvement, while also supporting innovation in the industry. We are proud to continue this tradition as your 2019 CORPAC Fundraising Co-Chairs.
Since 1994, the Central Ohio REALTORS® Political Action Committee (CORPAC) has been the vehicle for Columbus REALTORS® members to promote responsible home ownership and private property rights, through the support of real estate friendly political candidates and issues impacting the REALTOR® profession at the local, state, and national levels. And just like the Association, CORPAC seeks to continually innovate with the times; we are happy to relay all the exciting CORPAC opportunities that are on the horizon!
We have set a lofty fundraising goal of $252,000 in 2019, and we are happy to share that over 2,400 Columbus REALTORS® members have already invested $80,449 (as of 4/1) to this year’s campaign! Thank you to those who did not uncheck the box on your dues billing statement. This is the easiest way to invest in your industry.
If you haven't had the opportunity to invest yet this year, the committee is working hard to provide numerous opportunities that will be both exciting and convenient to entice you.
The first ever CORPAC Chili Cook-off kicked off the year in March and it was a great success! We had 15 fellow REALTOR®-members and affiliates submit recipes and the room was full of hungry tasters. Congratulations to Anthony Wharton of Wharton Inspections, LLC, who, after an exciting corn-hole tie breaker, took home the award for best recipe!
Fast approaching on Thursday, May 9, 2019, is the annual CORPAC Auction at St. Charles Preparatory. If you have never attended a CORPAC event, this is a great way to get more involved. Tickets and tables are available on the Columbus REALTORS® website. Thanks to the generosity of the REALTOR® community and a grant from the National Association of REALTORS®, we look forward to having over 120 exciting silent auction items and live auction packages up for bid. For more information on how your company can help support the event, please see page 5 in his issue.
Keep an eye out for the annual CORPAC Golf Outing on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 at Kinsale Golf & Fitness and Scioto Reserve Country Club. Start gathering your foursome or take part in the luxurious spa offerings. Registration will officially open in early July and is always a sell-out event (over 222 golfers last year!).
Perhaps the most exciting development for CORPAC this year is the ability to make your investments online! We are thrilled to be able to offer the option of setting up recurring payments, one-time payments, or payments at your convenience ...all tied to your checking account or credit card. This technology will assist many members who live by a business budget or those who would like to invest with each closing (much like the charitable contributions you make monthly through your brokerage). We are currently in the process of getting the system set-up and expect to have ready mid-summer.
Of course, we are always happy to take a check and hope to see you at any of the fundraising events! If you have any questions about making your investments/contribution history, please reach out to Ida Seitter at (614) 475-4000.
Now that making your investment couldn’t be more convenient, let’s talk about investment levels. Each year there are multiple levels for members to contribute towards that include special benefits. For example, each $100 annual contributor is invited to attend the annual Government Affairs reception in October. By invite only, this event gives members direct access to their local elected officials. The packed room each year shows the dedication our members have in protecting property rights in our local communities.
Additionally, each year CORPAC has Major Investors who invest at least $1,000 annually and their dedication is acknowledged in multiple ways. See the graphic (on page 18) for a breakdown of levels, but each Major Investor is recognized throughout the year, including at the VIP Major Investor event in October and via promotion in the January issue of In Contract. Major Investors also receive invite to private events at both state and national conventions.
Last year, 79 members stepped up as Major Investors and we are confident that since members can now budget for these higher levels, we will see more attain this elite status. Will you be one? Will you stand out to your colleagues and clients as someone who understands the importance of standing together to fight issues that are not in the interest of property owners? Next time you are at the Columbus REALTORS®, take a look at the wall in the lobby to see the members who are a part of the CORPAC Honor Society. Set your goals… will your name be on the wall next year?
If you have questions about an event, how to invest, or if you would like to request a speaker at your next area association/brokerage meeting, please reach out to your committee chairs or CORPAC staff, we are happy to share more details about CORPAC’s achievements. Have a prosperous 2019 and thank you in advance for your investment!
