Designing Homes that Make Life Easier

(3 CE credit hours)

Instructors: Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D. and Mark Leder

This class is a combination course and tour of the national-acclaimed Universal Design Living Laboratory (www.UDLL.com) which is a spectacular Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Prairie Style 3,500 square foot home unlike any you've seen. Clever design features and meticulous detailing make this home accessible, convenient, functional, peaceful and safe for everyone during every stage of life - regardless of age, size or physical ability.

A high-performance custom home, it showcases asked for, forward-thinking features, such as universal design, green and healthy construction, and feng shui principles. Realtors will learn about these benefits during the tour and presentation.

This national demonstration home and gardens is the personal residence of the presenters and general contractors/builders, Mark Leder and Rosemarie Rossetti.

Rosemarie uses a wheelchair for mobility and will share her experiences and demonstrate the features in her home that provide her total access and independence. Mark stands 6'4" and will demonstrate how many of the elements in the home design cater to his needs. Multiple needs, abilities and access considerations were all part of the design process when this home was on the drawing board. They will both review what works, what sells and where the challenges are.

Realtors will learn what it takes to develop a timeless universal design home. This program focuses on the latest in universal design features and products. Participants will see the newest products that satisfy a discriminating buyer and examine first-hand how these products add value to the home and to the quality of life for the home owner.

Realtors will come away with renewed confidence as they work with their next client to buy an existing home or build a new home. The will use the checklists and continue learning through the many resources they will be directed to on the subject of universal design and green building.
