The Commercial Education Committee continues to identify, research and implement interesting and relevant topics for continuing education classes for our members to attend. Let’s face it, we all need the CE hours, why not take these classes at our closest and most significant licensing partner, our local association; the Columbus REALTORS®!
The Commercial Education Committee meets monthly and we attempt to conduct two or three classes each quarter for our commercial members. These classes are usually planned at least nine months in advance and sometimes much longer.
First, we identify a topic of interest. Then we review and try to create a way to present that topic in an educational and interesting way, including being granted continuing education (CE) credits from the State of Ohio. We must choose the presenter, the date, the class time and the economics of the class. Each class we conduct comes with months of research, work and expense before the class actually occurs.
Please check the Columbus REALTORS® website for our updated schedule of class dates and topics. We also announce new classes through weekly email blasts. These classes are conducted as a benefit for membership to Columbus REALTORS®; take advantage of your membership dollars!
We offer the core classes free of charge. You don’t need to travel anywhere or pay a provider for Law, Ethics or Civil Rights. These classes are offered annually at no cost here at Columbus REALTORS®.
We always offer the EduCard. What a way to save money! If this is your renewal year, buy the card. Then all classes are free for that year and you can attend the Lunch and Learn classes at a reduced rate. The fee for the EduCard starting July 1 is only $50.
So far in 2019, we have offered classes on Core Law, Opportunity Zones, Environmental Issues and a Getting to Know in Dublin.
We have classes planned or scheduled later this year for the balance of 2019:
- COCIE class to help identify the best way to use Catalyst.
- Commercial Orientation including Ethics scheduled for Oct. 24, 2019.
- Impact of Residential Real Estate on the Commercial Real Estate market.
- Investment Basics class to identify valuation methods for income properties.
- Lunch and Learn class for Zoning Issues with guest speak from Columbus Department of Zoning.
- SBA lending basics.
- Civil Rights. (free)
- Getting to Know series with upcoming visits to Westerville and Downtown.
- Due Diligence process
The Commercial Education Committee also helps administer the Columbus REALTORS® Commercial Real Estate Internship Program.
We can help facilitate an internship for commercial member brokerages that would like an intern to help for a minimum of 2 months and 15 hours weekly. We have several candidates ready for assignments now, we just need interested brokerages to match them with. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or (513) 310-5497.
In conclusion, please stay aware of our offerings by visiting the Columbus REALTORS® website. If there is a class you’d like to see, please let me know! We would be thrilled to get recommendations of a class topic to conduct. Our committee meets the final Thursday of each month at 8:30a, feel free to join us.
My thanks to the entire Commercial Education Committee and especially our staff liaison, Kelly Bright, for all her work behind the scenes. We continue to “Rise to the Challenge” in providing the most complete and beneficial educational opportunities for our members.
