Upcoming Keypad Conversion

New Keypads coming in January

The Conversion will take place January 19-23, 2004 at the Aladdin Shriners’ Complex. Rest assured that we’ll provide you with complete information on the conversion process and schedules closer to conversion week.

Keypad Demos/Sneak Previews
Supra representatives and CBR staff will be visiting Area Realty Association meetings during the week of November 17 and December 1 to explain details about the new Keypads and products as well as answer questions about the conversion. As it is impossible to attend every Area Realty Association meeting in one week, CBR is attempting to schedule info sessions at the CBR offices, also, however, those schedules were not available at press time. They will be posted on the MLS screen when available. Click Here for Sneak Preview schedule.

Updating your Keypad

There are four ways to update your Keypad

  1. Leave it in the cradle overnight.  The Keypad will recharge its battery and update itself automatically.
  2. Manual eSYNC -  Place your Keypad in its cradle anytime and perform a manual eSYNC.  This takes about 45 seconds.
  3. Go online and get your update code and enter it into your Keypad.
  4. Call the 800 number and get a temporary access code.  Calling from a cell phone works fine for this as the code is entered manually, not by holding the phone up the phone receiver.

* Note:  Options #3 and #4 are available for your convenience should you forget to sync update your Keypad.  Either of these options will only be available to you for two consecutive updates.  Then you will be required to properly update your Keypad thereby uploading activity information to the system.

You don’t HAVE to update your Keypad every day
If you are not going to use your Keypad for a couple days or while on vacation, you are not required to update your Keypad. Just remember to update it before you leave for a showing.

Why can’t we continue with monthly updates?
Monthly updating is no longer an option with the Supra products due to two reasons.

Security - Supra’s research shows that 50% of agents show properties less than once every three weeks. Unfortunately, the agents who show infrequently can be those who forget their PIN code so they write it on the key. In the past, there have been occurrences (not in Columbus) where agents have lost keypads with their pin code attached to it (or in the pouch) and all lockboxes in the system had to be pulled until the keypad update period had expired. This kind of risk/liability is not acceptable for a system of our size. With daily updates, should a Keypad be lost, that Keypad will be deactivated by midnight of that same day.

Showing Info - The second reason monthly updates were not incorporated into Supra’s new system design was based on feedback from agents who wanted reports reflecting current showing activity, not activity that was a month old. With the daily updates, you’ll be able to see who visited the property yesterday and what the buyers had to say about it (if the agent enters this information.)

Why daily updates instead of weekly updates?
We had a choice between daily and weekly updates. The CBR Keybox Committee was charged with studying this issue and making a decision which the Board of Directors approved. To help explain their reasons, CBR polled each member to ask why they chose daily versus weekly updating. Many of their responses were inherently similar so here’s a compilation:

• Provides the highest security. Should a keypad get into the wrong hands, any concern will be eliminated within 24 hours instead of up to one week.

• Feedback will be more accurate for our sellers. Sellers do not like to wait an entire week for feedback. This way we can retrieve it daily.

• Weekly updating will be more difficult to remember. It will be easier to forget which day you updated your keypad and/or whether you updated this week or last week.

• We’re creatures of habit. We charge our phones and PDAs daily, why not a Keypad?

• I charge my phone every night and it’s always ready. I charge my digital camera about once a week and, when I forget (which I have), I’m in trouble.

• Remember, you don’t have to sync it every night – only when you’re going to use the keypad.

• If you’re not going to use it for a couple days or when on vacation, leave it in the cradle. Then it’s charged and ready to go when you are.

FYI - DisplayKEY users nationwide report that it takes less than 30 days to pick up the new habit.
