September Home Sales continue to soar!
(October 15, 2003) Homes sales in Central Ohio continue to soar. Last month, over 2,124 residential homes were sold, which is an 18.1 percent increase over the 1,799 homes sold in September of last year. Year to date, this brings the total number of homes sold to 17,092 – a 9.8 percent increase over the same period last year according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS®.
“Home buyers continue to flood the market to take advantage of the still low market rates,” said Bob Miller, President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. “Sellers are ecstatic over the numbers of buyers avidly pursuing homeownership right now. And we expect this level of activity to continue through the winter and into the spring.”
Home sale prices are showing strong appreciation. The average home sale price last month was $167,148 which is 5.1 percent higher than in September of 2002. More importantly, the year to date average home price is $168,877 which is 6.2 percent higher than the average home price for the same period last year. During the months of January through September, over $3.1 billion dollars worth of homes have been sold – a 16.6 percent increase over the same period last year.
“This is great news for homeowners“, says Miller. “When their homes show an appreciation in excess of six percent, this is solid proof their home is an excellent investment.”
