REALTORS® seem to get hit up for so many charitable causes. Our sphere of influence within the REALTOR® family, our own families and friends and our past clients all know they can count on us for charitable contributions. It’s hard to say no. Until 1991! In that year the Columbus Board of REALTORS® established a field of interest fund in partnership with the Columbus Foundation. With charitable status under Section 501C(3) of the IRS code, gifts to the fund may qualify the donor to federal, state, estate and/or gift tax deductions. (Always consult legal or tax counsel concerning your own tax situation.) Now we can say “I’m sorry, I contribute to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Foundation Fund. It impacts my livelihood today and will help my peers remember me tomorrow.”
The fund now has over $200,000 and though that money took over 10 years to raise, the sad fact is that it is just a drop in the bucket compared to other charitable foundation balances. The more money we raise, the more contributions we can make every year.
Our CBR Foundation Fund Committee has worked very hard over the past 2 years. They have designed a new brochure, targeted housing related projects, awarded scholarships and planned fundraising events. A big thank you to Barbara Lach and Bruce Massa (2002 co-chairs) who really kicked off the long range plan and to this year’s members.
Giving will be easy! You can buy our newly designed holiday cards at the Member Service Center (proceeds to benefit the CBR Foundation Fund.) You can attend our Celebrity Waiters Luncheon on November 14th at the Westin Great Southern Hotel. Tickets are $35 per person and we will have great “celebrity” waiters. Gifts of cash, securities and property are also welcome and gifts of celebration and memorials are appreciated by both the Foundation, and the friends and loved ones honored by your contribution in their name.
It has been my pleasure to chair this committee and I sincerely hope we can count on each and every one of you to remember the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Foundation Fund when making your 2003 charitable contributions.
