Madison County REALTORS® helping with first Habitat for Humanity home in their county

Members of the Madison County Realty Association joined forces with local residents to begin construction on the first of several planned Madison County Habitat homes. Through Habitat for Humanity, the approved homeowner buys the house for a small percentage down, through a no interest loan. The payments the homeowner makes are recycled back into the program to build other homes. Most unique to the program’s requirements are 250 hours of required sweat equity that can either be paid back through physical labor, class attendance, fund-raising or clerical work.   Another requirement of the project is that the homes cannot be sold by the individual for eight years.
