Dues waiver extended for military
The CBR Board of Directors voted to extend waiving dues for members of the military and their spouses. State and national dues portions have also waived.
Mortgage Relief for Soldiers and Sailors Deployed to Middle East
HUD issued guidance to all FHA-approved lenders reminding them of the key components of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act of 1940 which mandates that military personnel on active duty in wartime are entitled to mortgage relief, including a lower interest rate (six percent) on their mortgages. The guidance, in the form of a mortgagee letter, stresses to the lenders the importance of complying with the Act. The letter also reminds them that all available loss mitigation options must be considered when determining how best to assist affected homeowners, including in some cases the postponement of principal payments. The 1940 Act applies to reservists and members of the National Guard who are called to active duty. More information about HUD and its programs is available on the Internet at www.hud.gov.
Armed Forces Get Home Sale Capital Gains Tax Relief
Both the House and Senate passed versions of the long-pending Armed Forces Tax Fairness Act, which will allow active-duty service personnel stationed away from their homes to qualify for the capital gains exemption when they sell. An oversight in the Congressional reform of the home-sale capital gains rules in 1997 had placed a higher tax burden on these homeowners. |

Family Members in the Military...
Following are CBR members who have family members serving in the war. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
