November 2002 - In Memory

In Memory...
Margaret Geehring
1-6-1942 - 10-3-2002

Upon learning of Marge's passing,Larry Metzger shared with staff that he once heard a philosopher say, Death ends life as we know it, but the relationship endures forever.

This sentiment is indicative of how Marge's CBR family is coping with the loss of our beloved friend and colleague.

Marge Geehring departed this life on Thursday, October 3, 2002, after a three month battle with Lymphoma.

All who knew Marge knew she could be tough as nails. That toughness must have carried her through her final days. She worked up until two weeks before her death. Driving back and forth to Circleville — no easy drive even when you are feeling well.

Marge began working for CBR 20 years ago, first as the receptionists at our old building and then as CBR's Member Service Center Assistant in the new building. She enjoyed working in the store and made it uniquely her own. All of us at CBR share fond memories of Marge. Here are just a few of those memories:

Marge shared lunch with me for 20 years. The last several years, she was the caregiver for her Mother and I was the caregiver for my Husband, so sometimes we just needed to talk. We will always think of Marge at this time of year because she loved to go to the Pumpkin Show and we had a lot of fun dressing up for Halloween at the office. We both were very “crafty” and we liked to grow flowers, exchanging seeds and plants. We also exchanged presents on holidays and birthdays, so she will be thought of and missed often. There is something in me that still looks for her little red car to go speeding by me in the evenings on her way home to circleville.” — Jean Lammen

I remember Marge as one of the sweetest people I have ever known. She was feisty, spirited and very giving of herself and I gloried in her spunk. You could never do any wrong in her eyes. She would always come up with a reason why you did what you did in order to justify why you did it. She loved her mother very much and took care of her as if she was her child. We all have our days, and she was no exception to that rule. I really enjoyed sharing with Marge and we shared both good times and bad times. I loved her so much and will miss her a lot.” — Lenora Moore

Work with someone for 20 years and you acquire a wealth of knowledge about their life and considerable insight about their likes and dislikes and share almost daily in their triumphs and tragedies. Part of my personality requires that I kid with staff on a daily basis and Marge was one of my favorite “targets”. Almost everyday was open season but especially during our annual staff Christmas parties and it's her laughter that I will enjoy remembering. She was always a cooperative participant with us and enjoyed those times we shared together as staff.
For those who knew Marge, it will never again be the same in the board's store. It will be impossible to walk by that lobby window and not see her seated there. Her voice has been silenced and her presence removed but I will continue to remember and recall the life and times we shared as co-workers for so many years.
The next morning after Marge's passing but before we were notified, I read one of my emails that was written by an unknown author that so appropriately said … “When we are born, those around us smile while we are crying. Live your life so that when you die, you are smiling while those around you are crying” … so it was with Marge.” — Mike Gautier

Marge's spirit will endure forever in the hearts of all she touched at 2700 Airport Drive.
As a tribute to her, the CBR Member Service Center will be dedicated in her memory.
