President's Perspective

A time to reflect...
I'm so proud to be a Realtor®

Lynda Long
President

As I write this article, I know that you will be reading it shortly before the anniversary of September 11 – a time for reflection and remembrance. As I look back, I am once again reminded of the pride I felt (and still do) in our Realtor® organization.

Remember, our National Association of Realtors® established the Realtors® Relief Fund within hours of the events. In the first day alone, more than $300,000 came in.

We were the first organization to actually get money to victims of the tragedy and we did this within a week of their application.

In three months time, we raised more than $8.4 million and provided financial housing assistance to almost half of the families of the victims.

Five eastern Realtor® associations donated hundreds of hours of staff time to administer the funds. 100 percent of the money raised was given directly to the victims' families. And every check was personally delivered by a fellow Realtor®.

I am so proud to be a Realtor®. There is great power in our organization…and tremendous compassion!

If you feel similar pride, you might consider becoming more actively involved in the administration and leadership of our local CBR. Elections for our 2003 leadership team are right around the corner. Please consider whether or not you have an interest in an Officer or Director position with the Board. We are currently accepting resumes for the office of Secretary, four Director positions, and one Affiliate Director position.

Serving on the Board of Directors is truly a rewarding experience. Through my service, I've become so much more aware of how the Board works as well as how important member input is in the decision making process.

You also have the opportunity to serve on the Nominating Committee for the Director positions. If you have an interest or are curious how this all works, see the official notice below.

One last thing…
I'd like to ask each of you to make an extra effort in the next few months to extend professional courtesy to your fellow Realtors®. If you schedule a showing which, for whatever reason, you will not be able to make, pick up the phone and notify the proper party as soon as possible. Leave your business card (or note) at the home you've just shown to indicate that you've been there. Call the listing agent and let them know how the showing went. Treat the home with courtesy – turn out the lights, make sure the doors are closed/locked and the key is replaced.
