July/August 2002 - CI Education Committee

Belinda Ohlinger, Chair
C/I Education Committee

CI Education Committee
New faces, New classes, New Ideas!

The C/I Education committee has many new faces and grown much larger this year. The new ideas, participation and involvement of our members have been exceptional and as a result we have many new educational events on the calendar for this year and next year.

We have added more of the popular one-hour C/I luncheons to the calendar. Not only do you get 1 hour of continuing education credit and a great box lunch, but also an hour packed full of information about various projects and development around our city. Two C/I Luncheon Meetings have been presented so far this year, one with Franz Geiger updating us on the Polaris area and the other with Bob McLaughlin on Downtown Development and Revitalization.

Future C/I luncheons on the calendar include topics on Mass Transit, Working with Generation X, and the East Corridor Update (Gahanna, New Albany and Easton). The C/I committee again will host the Annual Halloween C/I luncheon on October 31, 2002 with Larry Metzger and Bob Fletcher giving us an update on Governmental Affairs.
For the second time, the C/I committee has hosted a 3-hour class on Real Estate Web Sites that have included presentations by Franklin County Auditor Joe Testa and Delaware County Auditor David Yost.

Those that attended the Fundamentals of Landlord Representation found the class to be full of good information and appreciated the personal experiences and insight of the 3 presenters, Wayne Harer, Brian Marsh and Ron Kennedy.
Future new classes from the C/I committee will be Understanding Commercial Building Systems (architectural, mechanical, electrical and communications), C/I Appraisal Process with Casey Hambleton and Sam Kuhn as instructors, C/I Contracts, Investment Properties using the HP10B calculator with guest instructor Troy McClendon, and the C/I Zoning Process.

The C/I committee will be looking back over the last few years of class offerings and work on developing a core group of classes to be presented each year. We will again this year be offering the required courses, Civil Rights/ADA for the C/I Practitioner and C/I Core Law.

New ideas and topics are continuing to be developed and the C/I committee members are working hard to make sure courses of interest, timely topics and valuable business applications are presented for all our Realtor® members to have the most continuing education choices and best education possible.
