April 2002 - Communications Committee

Serving on a Committee
It's rewarding, fulfilling and
definitely the thing to do!

Mar' Hartley, Chair
Communication Committee

The feeling I have received and the feelings I want to extend to the membership regarding committee work is that... It is rewarding, fulfilling, and definitely the thing to do. Many people give their time on committees to make a difference and to benefit the entire membership. It's never to late to jump on board.

The Communications Committee's main focus is to enhance the image of the Realtor® and ensure that information reaches members at all levels. It has also taken on many projects over the years to educate and inform the public.

The committee begins organizing in early January and works hard all through the end of the year. Following are the programs the Communications Committee will undertake in 2002.

Our 1st- Time Investment Seminar held last month was very popular. We had 180 reservations (and a waiting list!). Our thanks to Pat O-Neil, Larry Hoyt, Victor Cassasanta and Nanci McCorkle for their presentations.

Now, we are busy planning our Home Buyers Roundtable scheduled for April 25. This event always draws a crowd. The roundtable format has been very well received as it allows greater flexibility in getting the what's on the minds of potential buyers.

The Older Adults Lifestyle Options Seminar will be held later this year. It gives information not only to the seniors themselves but to their families so that they are informed/prepared to assist in approaching housing decisions.

Our Common Courtesy Checklist Brochure brochure highlights courtesies we should follow with other Realtors® and clients. One Courtesy is included in each issue of the magazine (below) and the whole brochure is printed annually as an insert in the magazine.

We administer/promote the Volunteer Service Award recognizing members who have volunteered their services to both the CBR and to their community. Applications will appear in the December issue of the magazine. These awards are presented annually during CBR's Forecast Night.

We're in our second year of the CBR Staff Profile in the In Contract magazine which highlights a different CBR staff member each month. Feedback on this feature has been very positive.

Another addition to the magazine will be articles devoted to Safety. Watch for these in upcoming issues.

The Communications Committee co-hosts quarterly Real Estate Career Night & Job Fair programs with Columbus State Community College. After all, isn't that where it all begins?

I'd like to take the opportunity to applaud the outstanding staff we have at CBR, without which, it would be impossible to run this or any committee.

We are also very interested in your thoughts as to what you would like communicated to you the membership. If you have any ideas, or if you have any interest in joining the Communications Committee, please e-mail me at Mar.Hartley@HerRealtors.com.
