News & Information : In Contract Magazine : October 2008 : Member News Member NewsRalph Renninger, ABR, CRS, GRI, RE/MAX Premier Choice, has been named Ohio CRS of the Year for 2008. This award, which was a long-time coming for Ralph who served as president of the Ohio CRS in 2007, was presented at the CRS Luncheon held during OAR's Annual Convention at the Columbus Convention Center. Teresa Beckley, Coldwell Banker King Thompson, has been awarded a State of Ohio Auctioneer license. To become a licensed auctioneer applicants must first serve a one-year apprenticeship, act as a bid caller in twelve auctions, attend an approved auction school, and pass both a written and verbal examination. Applicants must also have proof of financial responsibility in the form of an irrevocable letter of credit or a surety bond in the amount of $25,000. Amy L. Weinsz, Keller Williams Capital Partners, has been awarded the Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR) designation. This award is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation and is awarded to real estate practitioners by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council (REBAC) of the National Association of REALTORS® after meeting the specified educational and practical experience criteria. Daphne Hawk, ABR, CRS, GRI, RE/MAX Elite Services, has been elected to serve as treasurer of the Ohio Chapter of CRS in 2009. In Memoriam
James E. Scanlon, retired sales associate with RE/MAX Affiliates, passed away September 14, 2008. Prior to his real estate career, Jim owned Scanlon Tire Company for 25 years. He was also involved with The Knights of Columbus, Serra Club of North Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and Ancient Order of Hibernians. He had a love for swimming in the gulf and taking long walks along Vanderbilt Beach. He also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and reading. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jeanne Kane Scanlon; children, Mary Jeanne and Mark Evans, James and Vicky Scanlon, Garrett and Sherri Scanlon, Daniel and Kathy Scanlon, Kelley and David Martin; 10 grandchildren, great-granddaughter Milli; brother, Michael C. (JoAnn) Scanlon; and a host of other family and friends. James "Jim" Spires, former broker of HER Jim Spires and a resident of Cardington, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Altercare of Bucyrus. Jim worked for over 25 years as a real estate broker and was a member of both the CBR and the Morrow County Board of REALTORS®. In addition, he was a member of the Cardington First United Methodist Church, Cardington Rotary Club and delivered Meals on Wheels. Jim served his community on the Cardington-Lincoln School Board from 1988- 1996, the Morrow County Hospital Board from 1996-2002, and the Farmers Citizens Bank Advisory Board from 1998-2004. He also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. His passions in life were his family, a well-mowed lawn and hanging Christmas lights to create a Christmas glow. Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn, 3 sons, David (Karen), Mark (Tami), and Dan (Crystal) Spires all of Cardington, 11 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
