Project: The Southern Delaware Realty Association was proud to have over 30 volunteers for their project this year that included volunteers from the "Powell Area Garden Club" who also came out and helped coordinate our efforts for our crew at the historical Martin-Perry Home. We were pleased to have three chairpersons this year enabling us to have three projects going on in and around Powell.
Our first group stayed at the Martin-Perry Home where they worked on various projects, including but not limited to: Enormous amounts of weeding, edging all planting beds, edging and removal of sod strips in daylily area to make one large bed, cutting back the dead wood on the hydrangea bushes, smoothed and reseeding of grass by the parking area, cut-down of honeysuckle at back of property and trimming of trees, and lots of mulching!! We were also pleased to get a "token" start of a new back porch that will be built off the back of the property which is where the bulk of our funds were given. Our second project of the day was the task of scrubbing and cleaning with a special treatment of all of the park benches and teak trash cans throughout downtown Powell. This was quite an undertaking for that particular group due to the fact that once the wood was wet and sprayed down the realization of all the "mold" that had come to live on these items was quite an undertaking to get off. It took both shifts and a lot of hard scrubbing from volunteers to "strip" the benches to their natural beauty. We have some wonderful members that have volunteered their free time to go back and put the protective finish on the benches and trash cans after they have thoroughly dried. Our third project was a small group of volunteers that graciously spent their day weeding, mowing, and cleaning up debris at the Powell Cemetery to prep this very large area for construction of a fence that will protect entire area in the future from debris and vandalism. It was a pleasure for this group to give some TLC to some of the grave markers and tombstones in that location that may not have family members that are able to care for these areas and items themselves anymore. This group was spearheaded by Powell resident Kent Bermingham who has been on three archeological digs himself. Yeah Kent!!!! All in all we had an amazing group of loving REALTORS®, Affiliates, and community volunteers who were hot, sweaty, soaked, dirty, a little sore from some unused body parts being exercised. But we all walked away from this day with a sense of pride, love, and satisfaction knowing that we as an organization gave of ourselves to the betterment of our community!!!! Our best to you all and thank you for allowing the S.D.C.R.A. to be part of "REALTOR® Care Day"!!!!
