John served on the Johnstown Community Development Commission and was instrumental in helping to get a new library  built in Johnstown.

In his involvement with this project, John contributed to and helped organize the building fund raising  campaign and was heavily involved in overseeing the construction -- doing all of the interior trim himself on the 7,000 square foot library. The library, which opened in Johnstown in December 2005, is named for Mary E. Babcock, whose family members are life-long residents of Johnstown.

Mary was committed to building an updated library in Johnstown and pledged $1  million dollars toward the building fund. John says, "My commitment to getting this project completed stems from the need  for a growing Johnstown to have a modern library facility of its own in the community. And, since it's opening, the library has  served all members -- children, seniors, adults, families -- of the Johnstown community well."
