News & Information : In Contract Magazine : July/August 2007 : 2007 C/I Education Committee Report 2007 C/I Education Committee ReportC/I Education Committee on pace to exceed committee goals
The 2007 C/I Education Committee is off to a great start. As a committee, we had several goals that we wanted to achieve in 2007 and so far we are on pace to exceed all of our expectations. One of the main goals as a committee chair was to increase the number of members who would be participating in monthly meetings. I had been on the committee for two years and was always discouraged by the lack of members and participation of the existing members. In 2007, we have 18 members on the committee and have had several new members join the committee during the 1st half of this year. We have been averaging around 10 members per meeting which is double the amount we averaged in 2006. The great thing about the membership this year is that we have a great blend of new members and experienced veterans. The committee has strived to offer different courses to make sure that the C/I Lunches and 3-hour classes are being well attended. So far, we are averaging around 33 people per class. Each year the committee offers several of the same classes that we offered the year before, such as, Ethics, ADA (civil rights), and Core Law. These classes are always offered because many C/I members need these classes for their continuing education requirements. This year we're offering several new and interesting classes. First off, in early September we will be having an Arena District Event. This will take place at a yet to be determined site in the Arena District and will educate all attendees on what is going on in the constantly growing Arena District. As committee chair, I am extremely excited for this class because there is so much new development taking place in the Arena District. We will also be offering a 3-hour class later in the year that will have Community updates for the following suburbs: Bexley, New Albany, Grandview, Whitehall, Upper Arlington, and Clintonville. We will be offering between 45-50 hours of continuing education for the year and already have quite a few hours lined up for the 2008 committee. The 2008 C/I education committee chair is John Chess. John is a broker in Columbus and has spent several years being an active member of the committee. I have had a great time being Committee chair for the 2007 C/I Committee and look forward to working with this committee for the remaining months of 2007. |
