Homes on the Hill 1st-time Homebuyer Assistance program


Homes on the Hill CDC is a private, nonprofit organization that provides decent, affordable housing for low and moderate income families and individuals. Our services are offered in Spanish and English including housing counseling, homebuyer education workshops, and down payment assistance programs. We are in the business of helping qualified people purchase their first home, keeping them in their home, and ultimately, building wealth. The Huntington Mortgage Group and the Federal Home Loan Bank with Homes on the Hill CDC is offering funds to first time homebuyers. This program is designed to fulfill the needs of Hispanics, African Americans, or persons with disabilities.

How much assistance is available?
May receive grant funds in the amount of 10% of the contract sales price up to a maximum amount of $9,000 to be applied to down payment and eligible closing costs. This also may be combined with City of Columbus American Dream Downpayment Initiative, if borrower qualifies.

What are the requirements?

  • African American, Hispanic, or Disabled
  • Never owned a home
  • Must contribute $500 of your own funds toward the purchase
  • Properties need to be located within Franklin County to qualify
  • Homebuyers must also meet income guidelines

Welcome Home Income Guidelines
Households of 1 - 2 persons need to earn less than $51,200 annually and a household of 3 or more persons need to earn less than $58,800 gross per year. Please contact a housing counselor for more details.

How to get started:

1)    Complete a Homebuyer Education course and receive a certificate from  Homes on the Hill.

2)   Once approved, your application is then relinquished to Huntington Mortgage Group to begin the down payment
      assistance and loan approval process.

3)  Please contact us at 614-275 -4663, extension 100 to register for the next available classes. Along with the
     course, you must have an appointment with one of the housing counselors. In this appointment, a credit report is 
     reviewed; to determine how much house you can really afford taking into account all debt, credit worthiness,
     household expenses, and income.
