Member Services : Awards Programs : Spotlight on Community Service : Newton Burris Newton Burris
Newton Burris, Coldwell Banker King Thompson, has been involved in a variety of community service projects in the Central Ohio area for many years. His community service commitments include reading to 1st-5th grade students at Olde Orchard Elementary School, and supervising field trips and participating in Activity Day at Liberty Christian School. He also runs an inner city adult basketball league for his church, Higher Ground, where he coordinates all aspects of running the league for 8 to 10 teams and 80 to 100 players. For the past 5 years, he has served as a speaker for Columbus Housing Partnership's (CHP) home buying training classes. In the past, he has spoken to inmates getting ready to be released from prison about getting a job?discussing the interviewing process, putting together a resume, what to talk about during the interview and how to dress. In addition, Newton has adopted families during the holidays and he runs the blood drive for the Coldwell Banker King Thompson New Albany office, where more than 20 and 30 pints of blood are donated. According to Newton, "My commitment to kids and young adults stem from a desire to show them a positive role model. The blood drive is just a way to help save lives. And, working with CHP gives me an opportunity to share some of my knowledge to potentially help someone achieve his or her dream of homeownership. Many of these prospective homebuyers may not have been able to purchase a home without the help of CHP." |
