She also is a member of the Columbus Bible Way Church (CBWC) and is involved with the church Girls & Boys Military Camp and Scholars programs. Girls and boys participating in the week-long Military Camp are taught life skills, including interviewing techniques, budgeting, business dress and etiquette, along with Christian teaching, military drills and more. Each year, the CBWC Scholars Program awards two high school seniors (a girl and a boy) with a $1,000 scholarship for their academic, church and community involvement. She has served on this committee for over ten years. In the past, Cynthia has worked in several volunteer capacities for the city of Columbus. She has also served as a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) whose mission is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. She is a former board member of Take It to the Streets ? an organization that provides blankets and food for the homeless. She also is a member of the CBR Affordable Housing committee and the Grove City Business Women?s Association. Cynthia says, "My commitment to the community stems from my strong desire to give back. I feel that volunteering your time is a gift to others and is an important part of a well rounded, rewarding life." |
