Barbara Lowry

Barbara Lowry has been involved with the annual Historic Hilltop Bean Dinner for the past 16 years. For the last five years, she and her husband John has chaired the event, coordinating all aspects of putting the Bean Dinner together ? from raising corporate sponsorships to help offset the cost of putting this event on, to selling booth space to area businesses, to booking the entertainment, to coordinating kids activities and event promotion.

The Historic Hilltop Bean Dinner has been held since 1926, with origins in Civil War, veterans from both the north and south held reunions on the site of the former Fort Camp Chase.

This event is held at Westgate Park, which sits on a portion of the old Fort, and has evolved into a gathering place for the community ? bringing together families, friends, area businesses and non-profits for a day of fun.  In the past 5 years the event has gone from 10,000 people attending to over 42,000 in the past two years.

Barbara says, "The Bean Dinner presents an excellent opportunity to spotlight Westside businesses and non-profits and to serve as the main fundraiser for the Hilltop Business Association?s activities and the scholarship program for students attending Mt Carmel Hospital?s School of Nursing."
