(August 18, 2005) It seems the intense heat this summer did not deter customers from visiting and buying Central Ohio homes. Both home appreciation and sales were up in July according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service. Over 2,657 residential homes were sold during the month of July 2005. That's almost three percent higher than the numbers of homes sold last July. This brings the total number of homes sold in the first seven months of the year to 15,654. "Recent economic forecasts are now predicting that 2005 will be a record year and our home sales support that," says Doug McCloud, President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. "The 3,000 or so jobs added in this region over the last 12 months has been a strong motivator in home sales. Anticipating additional job growth and continued low interest rates, we expect the remainder of the year to see slightly higher than average home sales." The average price of a Central Ohio home sold in July 2005 was $187,400 which is just over eight percent higher than last year. However, according to McCloud, buyers and sellers should pay more attention to the average sale price year to date (January through July) which is $179,010 - up 5.7 percent over last year.
