(June 22, 2005) Over 2,653 homes sold in May 2005 which is 6.7 percent higher than the number of homes sold last year in May. Thus far, home sales during the first half of the year are now 1.2 percent higher than the first five months of 2004 according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service. “Sales in the first four months of the year were just ahead of last year, but the market came alive in May,” says Doug McCloud, President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. “This news bodes well for the summer months – which are traditionally more active.” Last month, the average Central Ohio home sold for more money than in previous months. Homes sold in May brought an average of $181,634 which is 6.1 percent higher than one year ago. Year to date, homes are selling for 4.9 percent ahead of last year. “We average roughly four percent appreciation annually on residential homes here in Central Ohio,” offered McCloud. “A five percent increase in value in one year is a healthy return on an investment that also serves owners in so many other ways.
