(April 21, 2005) Home sales in March were neck and neck with last year. The 2,140 residential properties sold is less than one percent under the 2,156 sales in March of 2004. Year to date, this brings the number of sales in the first quarter to 4,911 - just ½ percent higher than last year according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service. "In comparing this past March to last year's March, there's one interesting fact to note," said Doug McCloud, 2005 President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. "Last year, March sales shot up 36.5 percent when interest rates bottomed out. It was one of the most phenomenal months we have on record!" Of greater interest to both sellers and buyers is that the average sale price is up 5.5 percent. The average Central Ohio home sold this year sold for $168,376. "Homeowners realize that an annual appreciation rate of 5.5 percent is very good," comments McCloud. "It's certainly high enough to keep a Central Ohio home on the top of the list of smart investments."
