2004 Real Estate Weekly Committee Report

Cost Effective, REALTOR® Friendly, High Market Saturation REAL ESTATE Weekly is the place to advertise!

Kevin Strait, Chair
Real Estate Weekly Publishing Board

The Real Estate Weekly Publishing Board has oversees the operations of the Real Estate Weekly (REW) homes publication. The Columbus Dispatch is the vendor that prints our publication and works with us in making suggestions to improve marketing and visibility to both the general public and REALTORS®. Our goal is to keep Real Estate Weekly a cost effective publication that maintains a professional image of our REALTOR® membership.

Skip Knight, our representative from the Columbus Dispatch, has brought us some great ideas to keep the publication fresh and more noticeable to our potential readers.

This is what we’ve accomplished and are planning for the Real Estate Weekly.

  • Earlier this year, the Publishing Board has authorized the Columbus Dispatch to clean up the old newspaper boxes, remove the old logos and update them with our new logo design.
  • The Dispatch account executives and representatives will be attending your company office meetings and area realty association meetings. They will be there to present Real Estate Weekly packages as well other appropriate packages.  Please welcome them.
  • We are looking into a higher quality of paper for the Real Estate Weekly to be printed on. Currently the Dispatch is doing a cost analysis to determine if this would have an impact on printing costs and advertising rates.
  • Multiple page discounts are being considered to encourage companies to place more advertising in the Real Estate Weekly.
  • Watch for special classification group pages such as Affordable Housing, Condos, Vacation Property; and various price ranges.
  • The City of Columbus has gone to modular news boxes. This new concept looks much better than the 10 news boxes that you would find on many downtown street corners in the past. Real Estate Weekly has a great location in the new boxes.
  • When the City of Columbus went to the modular mailbox design, we freed up 34 Real Estate Weekly boxes that will be placed in areas with high pickup rates.

In 2003 the REW committee experimented with inserting the Real Estate Weekly in the Columbus Dispatch regional markets prior to an area event. This was done in the Wednesday edition prior to this event taking place. For example when the BIA had the Parade of Homes in Pickerington, the REW was inserted in the Columbus Dispatch that was delivered to the Pickerington area residents.

The results were so good we increased the number of insertions from five in 2003 to seven in 2004.  Response has been overwhelmingly good as each insertion issue shows a significant increase in advertising.

We will continue to look at this program and, if it is cost effective, increase the number of insertion issues in 2005.

The Real Estate Weekly is our paper.  We control the cost and the circulation. Its success also depends on you and I.

I ask that the next time a Real Estate Weekly representative gives you a call to talk with you or speak at your company meeting, please give them an opportunity to show what the Real Estate Weekly has to offer you.
