July home sales on par for record year(August 19, 2004) Central Ohio home sales saw a 3.5 percent increase last month. Over 2,584 homes were sold compared to the 2,497 homes sold in July of 2003. The number of homes sold year to date stands at 15,465 which is 12.7 percent ahead the same period last year according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. “Home sales statistics continue to exceed last year’s sales in large numbers,” said Skip Weiler, President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. “This is certainly keeping par with the national predictions for a record year in home sales.” At $173,328, the average home sale price in July was down almost 3 percent from the average price of homes sold last year. However, year to date, homes are selling for an average of $169,335 which is still slightly ahead of last year. “The average sales price was down slightly for the month because we saw twice as many homes in the $1 million dollar range sell last year in July,” notes Weiler. “This can really skew the sales statistics. The better average is the year to date which continues to exceed last year’s average sale price.” Over $2.6 billion dollars worth of homes have been sold in the first seven months of the year, which is 13.9 percent higher than last year.
