Home sales continue at staggering levels(July 22, 2004) Over 2,827 homes sold in June 2004 which is 18.6 percent higher than the number of homes sold last year in June. Thus far, home sales during the first half of the year are now 15.1 percent higher than the first half of 2003 according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service. "Although the summer months are traditionally good months for home sales, these numbers are staggering," said Skip Weiler, President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. "Especially for a year originally predicted to slow in home sales." Last month, the average Central Ohio home sold more quickly and for more money than in previous months. Homes sold in June sold for $182,827 in about 75 days. Year to date, the average sale price is $168,565 and average days on market is 85. "In addition to selling more quickly and for more money, sellers are getting about 98 percent of what they're asking," Weiler commented. "This could be due to a couple things. First, sellers are pricing their homes for sale, not for show. And second, the threat of increasing interest rates is motivating buyers to make sound, reasonable offers. Bottom line is - both sides are coming to the bargaining table ready to make a deal."
