Home sales jumped 6.6% in May(June 17, 2004) The number of homes sold in May 2004 jumped 6.6 percent over the same month last year. At 2,486 home sales, this is a record for the month of May. Year to date, that brings the total homes sold by REALTORS® in Central Ohio to 9,845 which is 13.8 percent higher than homes sold during the first five months of 2003 according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service. “The experts are now predicting that 2004 will be another record year for home sales,” said Skip Weiler, President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. “With Central Ohio home sales up almost 14 percent over last year, it looks like we’re no exception.” The average sale price of a home in May was $171,115. This is 4.8 percent higher than one year ago and up 2.1 percent year to date. All tolled, $1.6 billion in residential homes have sold thus far in 2004 – 16.2 percent more than the same period last year. “Homes have been selling quickly,” Weiler commented. “Homes sold in May took an average of 78 days to sell which is almost 20 percent faster than homes took to sell last year. Year to date, we’re averaging about 87 days on market.
