Tom Calhoon

Tom Calhoon, Prudential Calhoon Co., believes that education is the most important thing we can provide the young people of our community and he has spent the last 20 years doing just that --serving 5 terms on the Hilliard Board of Education.

During that time, the Hilliard School System has grown from 4,000 to 14,000 students, built 6 new elementary schools, 2 new high schools, 2 new middle schools, and 2 six grade only schools.The school system is the 10th largest school district in the state of Ohio and is rated excellent by the Ohio Department of Education, which, according to Tom, is pretty significant for a school system that is still growing.

Tom is also involved in the Ohio 4-H Foundation, serving 12 years on the Board of Directors and 5 years as Board President. Founded in Ohio in 1903, 4-H is the largest youth training organization in the country. The Foundation funds training for more than 320,000 youth and is currently raising funds to build an Ohio 4-H Education Center at The Ohio State University.

On his commitment to youth and education, Tom says, “Many, many people went out of the their way to help me; first and foremost, my Mom and Dad, my school teachers, 4-H advisors, student council advisors, coaches — they all had a significant input in my growing up and were very positive influences in my life.  And, I feel that service is the rent we pay for the space we take up while on earth.
