2003 Home Sales Top the Charts!
(January 21, 2004) Central Ohio home sales last year set all an all time record high. Finishing the year at 24,306, total home sales in 2003 were a staggering 9.2 percent higher than the previous record of 22,267 set in 2002 according to the Columbus Board of REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service.
“We were stunned at the level of activity last year,” said Skip Weiler, President of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®. “Despite negative predictions early in the year, home buyers flooded the market, taking the real estate industry by storm.”
Further good news is the very respectable increase in home values. The average price of a home sold in Central Ohio in last year was $166,928 which is five percent higher than the average sale price of $158,927 in 2002. All tolled, Central Ohioans bought and sold over $4 billion dollars worth of residential homes in 2003. This is a 14.7 percent increase over the total dollar volume transferred in 2002. “We’re fortunate to live in such a vibrant community“, says Weiler. “Our schools, commercial growth and job opportunities combine to make Central Ohio a very attractive place to live and raise a family.”
