News & Information : In Contract Magazine : January 2004 : Key Exchange

Key Exchange

It's finally here!
We’ve talked, presented, discussed, previewed and written about the Keypad conversion for the last three months.  And now, the time is finally here!  The Conversion will take place January 19-23 at the Aladdin Shrine Center, 3850 Stelzer Road (near Easton).

All Keypad holders are to receive two mailings from Supra. The 1st mailing (a postcard) should have already arrived.  The 2nd mailing outlines exchange specifics and includes your appointment time and should be arrive around the time you receive this magazine.

Questions & Answers about the Key Exchange

What do I bring?

  •  Your photo I.D. or drivers license
  • Your existing Superkey
  • Payment. If you haven’t paid (see below), you’ll need to bring VISA, MasterCard, or Check (sorry - no cash.)
  • Yourself! Everyone getting an electronic key must attend in person.

What will it cost?
If you paid your annual or semi-annual keypad fee to CBR with your dues, you won’t need to pay any lease fee at the Key Exchange.  However, if you chose the eKEY, please read the detailed information on the opposite page.

How long will this take?
Let’s see...We have almost 5,000 members to get through the exchange in what amounts to 28 actual hours.  As Supra has done this many times, we have it down to a science of sorts.  So...In a perfect world, everyone will show up at their appointed time and we’ll have you in and out in 45 minutes.  In our world, we suggest you budget at least an hour to an hour and 15 minutes.

What will happen at the Key Exchange?
You’ll turn in your current SupraKEY and pay any fees if needed.  If you select the DisplayKEY, you’ll sit through a 20-minute class on using your new keypad.  If you choose the eKEY, your class will be about 45 minutes.

Do I just show up?
NO.  We simply can’t process everyone at once therefore we’d appreciate your coming at your scheduled appointment time.  Below is an overview of each day.  Your day will correspond with the spelling of your last name.  Your exact appointment time will be mailed to you and is available online.

  • Monday, January 19 -- A-COUG
  • Tuesday, January 20 -- COUR - HINE
  • Wednesday, January 21 -- HINK-MILU
  • Thursday, January 22 -- MINI - SIMO
  • Friday, January 23 -- SIMP - Z

Please make every effort to come during your scheduled time.  Members coming at a time other than their appointment will be infringing on the time of others.

What if I’m late or can’t make my appointed time?
If you’re late for your appointment, you may need to wait for the next scheduled time. You may trade appointments with another person if you’d like.

What if I can’t come to the Key Exchange at all?
The existing KIM computer will no longer be available for update codes after the key exchange. Your current keypad will stop working on February 2, 2004.

Which Keypad will you choose...the eKEY or the DisplayKEY?

If you haven’t decided which Keypad you’ll want, you need to decide before the Key Exchange.  You have a choice between the DisplayKEY and the eKEY (palm product.)

Over 1300 members attended Sneak Preview sessions in November and December which provided product explanations and demonstrations.  If you have decided which keypad you’ll get - Great!  If not, please review this information, read past issues of the In Contract magazine, visit www.supraekey.com or call 1-877-699-6787 for questions related to the eKEY.

FYI - of the members who attended the preview sessions, 55% said they expected to select the eKEY during the Key Exchange.  Also, over 200 CBR members have already purchased their Zire™ 71

DisplayKEY   (basic service)
Cost:  $106/year (includes cradle)

A DisplayKEY (sometimes called a dKEY) is really just what it says – a display keypad as it has a small screen which displays messages and eliminates remembering the meaning of  our current combination of buzzes and beeps.  For example, with the new DisplayKEY, if you enter the wrong pin code, it will display ‘Wrong pincode’ instead of giving you one long buzz.  No more remembering that two short buzzes means your battery is low, you can view this on the display screen.  A favorite feature of the new displayKEY is that it has a rechargeable battery (which charges via the cradle) thereby eliminating the need to change batteries.

The annual fee for the DisplayKEY is $106.00.  If you paid either the annual or semi-annual fee to CBR with your dues, you will not need to pay for the DisplayKEY at the Key Exchange.  However, if you have not paid the fee to the board, you will need to be prepared to pay the $106 annual fee (or the $53 semi-annual fee) at the Key Exchange.

eKEY   (premium service)
Cost:  $25.03/month (includes cradle)
Palm required - purchased separately (see below)

The eKEY is actually a clamshell case which fits around a palm product (PDA).  The eKEY (clamshell) leases for $25.03/month. The lease fee includes online access to the keypad system.  The palm will need to be purchased separately.

Palm functions include traditional features such as calendar, contacts, to-do list, and memo pad.  Additionally, you’ll get software which allows you to download a scaled-down version of the MLS; complete agent roster that gets updated daily; Mapolis maps; Buyer Profile software developed by Supra.  And you can take advantage of  any number of palm software products available on the market today.

With the eKEY, keybox activity reports (available via the internet now) will be downloaded and available on your eKEY.  You can change your pin code, shackle codes, CBS codes and access hours - again on the eKEY itself versus on the internet.

Currently, there are four palm products which work with the eKEY:  m500, m505, m515 and Zire 71.  Supra will have the Zire™ 71, which is a full color unit with a built-in camera, available for purchase during the Key Exchange for $249.  (Note:  members who had already purchased this palm for $299 from Supra will be receiving a $50 refund check in January.)

If you have your own palm (and it’s one of the models above), you can use it IF it has 6 MB of memory available for Supra applications and you perform a HotSync prior to the exchange (Supra cannot back up Palms at the exchange).

If you paid either the annual or semi-annual fee to CBR with your dues, you will not owe anything AT the Key Exchange. If you have not paid the fee to the board, you will need to be prepared to pay $53 (first two monthly payments) at the Key Exchange.  Starting in the third month of eKEY service, Supra will automatically deduct the monthly payment from an account (Visa, MasterCard, American Expres or checking/savings) you designate at the Key Exchange.

If you choose the eKEY, CBR will be offering palm instructional classes in the CBR classroom during the week of February 9.  A schedule of classes will be provided with your palm at the Key Exchange, in the February In Contract magazine and registration will be available online at www.supraekey.com.
